Odour elimination

Odour and exhaust air treatment at sewage treatment plants with NEUTRALOX® photoionisation

Neutralisation of odours in the exhaust air of industrial plants and in wastewater treatment

Sewage treatment plant

Odour emissions occur in many areas of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, e.g. in sewer systems, sewage treatment plants, sludge treatment, slaughterhouses, milk processing plants, etc. Due to the amendment of the Sewage Sludge Ordinance (AbfKlärV), the topic of odour elimination has recently gained enormous importance in sewage sludge drying and the operation of sewage sludge incineration plants.

The substances released in this process range from organic compounds such as alcohols, aldehydes and ketones to sulphur-containing hydrocarbons such as mercaptans and cadaverine to inorganic substances such as ammonia (NH3) and hydrogen sulphide (H2S). The use of solvents such as acetone and other VOCs can also cause significant odour emissions.

NEUTRALOX® offers effective and reliable methods for treating these and other odour emissions, taking into account the complexity of the odour composition.

How does photoionisation work?

  1. UV light generates oxidising agents, ionises atoms and molecules, and breaks down pollutants.
  2. Catalysts are used to oxidise harmful substances and odours.
  3. The result: effective odour removal

Where are photoionisation systems used?

Screen plant  - Sewage pumping stations - Vacuum stations - Screen buildings, headworks - Sand traps - Inlet areas - Pre-clarification - Thickener - Sludge storage tanks - Sludge treatment, e.g. dryer, aerobic stabilization - Dewatering buildings

In waste water treatment plants, Neutralox plants are mainly used in the inlet area, in mechanical cleaning and primary clarification - as well as in all areas of sludge treatment.

Small Plant

500-1500 m³ / hour

Waste water pumping stations often have relatively small Neutralox plants, which ensure odor treatment completely independently and without major operating costs.

Medium-sized plant

2000-5000 m³ / hour

Medium-sized plants treat exhaust air from various odor sources or smaller buildings

Large plant

10.000+ m³ / hour

Large Neutralox plants treat exhaust air in large rooms, such as screening or drainage buildings. In some cases, the exhaust air from complete waste water treatment plants is oxidized.

Advantages of UV technology for exhaust air purification

Powerful & Reliable

Typical odour pollution caused by hydrogen sulphide (H₂S), dimethyl sulphide (DMS), ammonia (NH3), volatile organic compounds (VOC) etc. is effectively eliminated even with large air flows.

Low operating and maintenance costs

Due to its physical-chemical mode of action, photoionisation is independent of environmental conditions.

Compact & quick to operate

Our systems are modular in design and are delivered pre-assembled. They also require a comparatively small installation area.

Power connection is sufficient

Für den Betrieb von Neutralox Anlagen wird nur ein Stromanschluss benötigt. Verbrauchsmaterial tauschen wir bei der turnusmäßigen Wartung.

Whether desert or arctic winter

Single-walled, double-walled and insulated. Our systems can cope with all climates.

Indoors and outdoors

Thanks to their compact design, our systems can be installed indoors or outdoors.

Energy efficient

The energy requirements of the systems are low. With integrated heat recovery, the waste heat can be used to heat the supply air.
